We use hairdryers a lot in our daily routine; we take shower, wash our hair, pick up the hairdryer, flip the switch, hot air comes out of it to dry our hair quickly and then we move on with our work. Hairdryers are delicate and should be handled with care. Their proper maintenance is necessary if you want to increase the life of your hairdryer and save money not having to buy a new one.
Most hairdryers allow you to regulate the heat. The hotter the heating element gets the hotter air it will push thought it. There are various parts of hairdryers like nichrome wire, heating element, blowing unit etc. that should be taken care of.
Solid maintenance of hair dryers is a must if you want to extend their lifetime. Your hairdryer can benefit a lot from maintenance. The motor is most vital part of your hairdryer and you should give extra care to it. It only takes a few minutes to lubricate the motor of your hairdryer but doing so will add years to it’s life.
Before lubricating the motor of your hairdryer, you should unplug the hairdryer first and then you should remove all the screws. Once you have removed the outer casing, make sure that you have loosened all the screws otherwise, the casing may break due to pressure tension. Once you have opened the casing then you should clear all the dust and debris you find in the interior of the hairdryer. To clear the dust and debris form the surface, you can use an old toothbrush. You can also use a can filled with compressed air to clear the dust and loosen the debris. Another alternative is to use a vacuum cleaner with crevice attachment. It will suck all of the loosened debris making the surface dust free. Then slowly remove the motor shaft and expose the motor. Lift it and take it out. Then apply few drops of oil on the bushings, which are there at each end. You can use any household oil or machine oil. Use a toothpick to apply some oil over it. Once you are done, just replace the entire thing and your hairdryer will be again ready to use.
Apart from motor, another very important part of hairdryer is the nichrome wire. Though it does not oxidize or rust but still it is recommended that you should keep it dry as far as possible as it poses the risk of short circuit.
The number one problem with modern hairdryers is by far burnt out motors. Luckily the solution is quite easy. Most of the hairdryers that are available in the market these days use a washable filter that can be easily removed and cleaned with a brush. There are other hairdryer units which may require the replacement of filter. Whatever the case, the filter should be cleaned and changed regularly. Change the filter accordingly to how much you use your hairdryer. Don’t forget to keep proper and regular maintenance of your hairdryer and take care of your investment at the same time.
